AnglerIQ Geolocation Collection and Consent Disclosure

Effective September 9, 2026

AnglerIQ is a location based app. Location is not a side feature. It is how the app works. Because that is sensitive, we want to be direct about exactly what we collect, when, and what happens to it.

This disclosure is part of our Terms of Service and works alongside our Privacy Policy. If anything here conflicts with a general statement in the Privacy Policy, this document controls on location.

1. The Permission We Ask For

When you first use a feature that needs your location, your device will show you a permission prompt. The prompt reads:

"AnglerIQ uses your location to log where you caught fish and to show nearby fishing zones."

We request "when in use" access only. That means we can read your location while the app is open and you are actively using it. We cannot and do not read it when the app is closed or in the background.

We do not use background location. We do not use significant location change monitoring. We do not use geofencing. We do not build a movement history of you.

2. When We Actually Read Your Location

Only in these situations:

If you are not doing one of those things, we are not reading your location.

3. Your Exact Coordinates Are Private

YOUR EXACT CATCH COORDINATES ARE PRIVATE TO YOU. WE DO NOT DISPLAY THEM PUBLICLY, WE DO NOT SELL THEM, AND WE DO NOT SHARE THEM WITH OTHER USERS.

We know that spot secrecy is the whole culture of fishing. We built the app around that.

4. Public Heat Zones and How They Protect You

The public map shows heat zones. Those are built from contributed catch data, but they are deliberately coarse and deliberately pooled.

You can opt out entirely. Go to Settings and turn off "Contribute to public heat zones." Your catches then stay yours alone and are not pooled into any public zone. Turning this off does not reduce any other feature you paid for.

5. Per Catch Visibility

Separately from heat zones, you choose who sees each catch you log:

There is no setting anywhere in AnglerIQ that publishes your exact coordinates to another person. Not even Public does that.

6. Who Receives Location Information

Location data touches these providers, limited to what is needed to deliver the feature:

Our analytics do not receive your coordinates. Product analytics events exclude exact coordinates, message text, photos, and email addresses.

7. Turning Location Off

You can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings under Privacy and Security, then Location Services, then AnglerIQ.

If you do, the app still works, but the features that depend on knowing where you are will not. You can still browse the map manually, log catches by selecting a spot yourself, and read species and regulation information.

8. Sensitive Data Status

California treats precise geolocation as sensitive personal information. Texas treats it as sensitive data requiring your consent before collection. Several other states do the same.

We handle it accordingly. We ask for your consent through the device permission prompt before we collect it. We use it only to deliver the features described in section 2 and to build the anonymized aggregate zones in section 4. We do not use it to infer characteristics about you, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not sell or share it. Because our use is already limited to permitted purposes, you do not need to send us a request to limit it.

9. Users Under 18

AnglerIQ is for adults only. You must be 18 or older to have an account. We do not knowingly collect location data, or any other data, from anyone under 18. If we learn that an account belongs to a minor, we close it and delete the data.

10. Deleting Your Location Data

Delete an individual catch and its coordinates go with it. Delete your account in Settings and all your catches and their coordinates are deleted.

Anonymized aggregate heat zone data may remain after deletion, because it no longer identifies you or any specific catch of yours.
